Smartphone giants like Apple, Google or Samsung push AI as a characteristic of the latest models, a significant number of customers are indifferent to it. According to a survey conducted by CNET, one in four smartphone owners feel that these AI features are of little use to them. While the tech companies strive to incorporate AI, many users remain unmoved by these novelties.
Smartphone AI Features: Less of a Priority for Users
Specifically, smartphone consumers’ awareness of AI integration was revealed to be at only 18% while 28% of them said it as a primary motivation for getting a new smartphone. This may be implying that despite there being such a trending buzz concerning AI capabilities especially within the technology market, it is not necessarily a pull factor to consumers. However, the listed features are just the tip of the iceberg, as people currently care more about battery life and storage, for instance.
Reluctance to Pay for AI Capabilities
The second important observation concerning consumers’ attitudes toward communicative AI is that 45% of participants stated that they are not ready to pay a monthly subscription for AI functions. This reluctance implies that yes, while there may be some benefits to using AI, the users do not find it worthwhile to incur more costs. As to the concept of paying extra for AI-inspired features and experiences, it can hardly attract nearly half of the entire base of smartphone website users.
